UTSA Football Takes Care of ECU on Homecoming | Key Takeaways

The conference winning streak moves to 14 after UTSA Football defeated East Carolina on Saturday 41-27 during the program's homecoming game at the Alamodome. The Roadrunners are now 4-0 in AAC play this season and move to 5-3 on the year.

Odds heading into this game:

Line: UTSA -17.5

O/U: 48

Have a Day Joshua Cephus!

And a day he DID have. Wide Receiver Joshua Cephus was unstoppable outside the hashes on Saturday, the only problem was he wasn't thrown to ENOUGH! The fifth-year senior had four receptions for 183 yards and a touchdown. This was a career-high for Cephus in the yardage category and only the sixth time surpassing the 100-yard mark in a game (2nd time this season).

Joshua Cephus added another UTSA record to his resume on Saturday as well. His 84-yard Touchdown reception is now the longest in UTSA Football History.

Frank Looking like Good Ol' Frank

No, I'm not talking about his age. UTSA Quarterback Frank Harris is starting to show that midseason form we all know and love. The best part about it? He looks healthy doing it. After having multiple offseason procedures, and lingering injuries during non-conference play at the beginning of the year, Harris is starting to look like the QB of the past.

Harris went 20/32 with his throws and passed for a season-high 395 yards. This was the most yards he has put up since September 30th, 2022, when UTSA defeated Middle Tennessee 45-30. Harris did throw a pick-six for the second consecutive week but quickly recovered on the very next drive. Harris also showed his legs off a bit with a few scrambles, one going for 17 yards. This is where I got excited watching him play this week and shows that he is looking closer to that "100%" we all are hoping he will be. With the rest of the team starting to find their grove as well, this is a VERY GOOD thing as we get deep into the conference schedule.

Trey Moore Can't Be Stopped

As UTSA celebrated Homecoming this past week, UTSA great (and now current Minnesota Viking) Marcus Davenport was inducted into the UTSA Hall of Fame. It only makes sense that Trey Moore breaks the Season Sack Record the same week he's in town. Moore currently has 12 sacks on the season and still four games remaining on the schedule (at least). The former record holder was Clarence Hicks who had 10.5 sacks in 2021.

Moore is only two sacks away from tying Davenport's record as the all-time Sacks leader in UTSA History with 22. Will he tie, or even break the record this week in Denton?

Small, But Mighty

Although the attendance for the game on Saturday was not close to any records at the Alamodome, the 22,629 strong made it tough for East Carolina to find any type of rhythm, especially in the second half. Fans at the dome were being told by their wearables it was too loud. And for that, we say GOOD!

Off to Denton

Rivalry Week is here as the Roadrunners will head to Denton to face North Texas. The Mean Green are the last team to defeat UTSA in a conference game in 2021. This game will be personal for those players who remember that game, and just like this week against ECU, although UNT only has a record of 3-5, expect a dogfight on the football field.

Although a cold front is rolling in at the beginning of the week, the forecast for Saturday in Denton looks clear with a predicted temperature of 74 degrees at kickoff. The game will begin at 2 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on ESPN Plus.
